Dodi Tal lake in Garhwal

mysterious, alluring, and simply beautiful ! It is at an elevation of 3024 
meters above mean sea level, north of Uttarakashi. Crystal clear waters are 
surrounded by dense Oak Woods, Pine, Deodar and Rhododendrons. The lake is full 
of fishes and is known for some of the rare species like the Himalayan Golden 
Trout.
The trek from Dodital to Yamnotri takes you through high altitude grasslands and 
dense virgin forests. The scenery en-route is really astounding ! Thetrek 
for Dodi Tal commences 
from Uttarkashi or Kalyani, which can be approached by motor. Kalyani to Agoda 
is a gradual climb through woods, fields 
and villages along· a mule track. The trek from Agoda to Dodi Tal is steep and 
through thick forests.
Our trek route starts from Kalyani ( sangam chatti ) road head near Uttarkashi 
and finishes at Hanuman Chatti. The route is a nature lovers delight. Maximum 
altitude reached on the trek would be 4250 m at Darwa summit. 
Dodital is a beautiful lake, surrounded by thick forest of oak, fir and 
rhododendron. The lake is approximately hexagonal in shape, and is inhabited by 
golden trout, which gives its name. ( Dodi means trout in the local language ). 
Reference to the Dodital lake are there in the Puranas, where it has been 
described as one of the holy lakes. It is the source to about 80 rivulets which 
merge to form the Assi Ganga, due to which the valley is also called Assi Ganga 
valley ( Assi means 80 in the local language ). The Assi Ganga meets the 
Bhagirathi at Gangotri. 
We would further trek beyond the Dodital lake, across Bakaria khaga pass ( also 
known as Darwa pass ) near the Darwa top, to camp at the vast meadows of Kanasar. 
Darwa top offers magnificent views of Banderpoonch and Swaragrohini massifs. 
Next Dayara and Dodital is situated at north of Uttarkashi and surrounded by dense woods of oak, pine, deodar and rhododendrons. This area is known for great Himalayan views and its flower strewn meadows. Doditalis situated at an altitude of 3307 m from sea level, north of Uttarkashi and surrounded by dense woods of oak, pine, deodar and rhododendrons. The amazing lake is full of rare fishes and the Himalayan Golden Trout’s. This trek from recommended to novice and as well to experienced trekker. This trek is considered moderate with few steep climb with long descents. We will enjoy most days through dense forests with many varieties for birds and flora.

  The trek from Agora to Dodital is gradual and through thick forests. Dodital is 
  a high altitude lake at a height of 10347 ft. Dodital situated amidst pine 
  forest with backdrop of Darwa Bugyal, A high altitude meadows. Dodital has a 
  serene effects on the mind and body. Dodital gets its name from Dodi, the local 
  name for trout fish, which are found in a large number in the Dodilake. Like 
  most of high altitude lakes, Dodital (angler’s paradise) also has a legend 
  associated with it.
  
  The legend, another name for this lake is Dhundital, Dhundital means – the lake 
  of Ganesha. In Sanskrit Dhundi is synonymous with Lord Ganesha. There is a 
  temple which devoted to Lord Ganesha and Mother Parvati .The legend was that 
  Ganesha selected this place as his abode. The story goes that this is the place 
  where Ganesha was born. Shiva was known to keep away from home for extended 
  period and it is during one of these long period of absence that Ganesha was 
  born. One day Mother Parvati , Ganesha’s mother was taking the bathin the 
  lake.She had instructed Ganesha to guard the entrance,Just then Shiva retuned 
  from one of his long trip, and was stopped by Ganesha .Enraged, Shiva cut off 
  his(Ganesha’s) head.
  
  When Parvati came to know about this, she was livid and demanded that Shiva 
  restore Ganesha’s life. In the interest of domestic hormony, Shiva set out in 
  search of Ganesha’s head.
  
  The first animal that Shiva came across was an elephant’s head. Book in the 
  Dhundiraj temple relates this tale in English!

Day 1: Delhi 
to Kalyani ( 1550 m ) near Uttarkashi
Board early morning ( 6:55 AM ) Shatabdi express from Delhi for Haridwar. Meet 
our trek coordinator at Haridwar Railway station. Drive 7 hours to Kalyani ( 
near Uttarkashi ), for the overnight stay at camp "Kuflon Basics". Short 
orientation program while relaxing around a campfire. Discuss the trek and the 
geography that you would be passing through.
Day 2: Kalyani to Agoda/Bevra ( 2400 m ) - Trek 4/5 hours
Start the trek from Kalyani ( Sangam Chatti ). After crossing a foot bridge, 
trek about 8 kms of moderate to stiff uphill climb. Camp would be established 
ahead of Agoda village. Overnight in tents.
Day 03 : Agoda to Dodital ( 3,307 mt ) is a gradual trek, of about 17 kms. The 
lake is set in midst of thick forest and is roughly hexagonal in shape. Through 
out the trek the route is through forests mainly Oak and Rhododendron which 
gradually turn into Fir and Deodars. Set camp besides the Dodital lake.
Day 4: Dodital to Darwa pass ( 4100 m ) to Kanasar ( 3900 m ) - Trek 5 hours
Uphill trek from Dodital to Darwa pass ( traditionally known as Bakaria Khaga 
Pass ). Spectacular view of peaks like Banderpoonch and Swargrohini. After the 
pass, the route opens up into meadows. We would camp at Kanasar which is shortly 
after crossing the Darwa pass.
Day 5: Kanasar to Darwa summit ( 4250 m ) - Hike 4 hours
From Kanasar a short climb leads to the Darwa summit. From here one gets an 
excellent sight of Himalayas with an unobstructed all around view. Return to 
Kanasar by afternoon for a hot lunch, and relax for the remaining day. Overnight 
in tents. 
Day 6: Kanasar to Kandoli ( 2800 m ) - Trek 6 hours
Descend from Kanasar, across meadows of Seema. Set up camp at Kandoli after 
trekking through forests. 
Day 7: Kandoli to Hanuman Chatti ( 2400 m ) to Delhi - Trek 2 hours, Drive 7 
hours
Short trek to reach Hanuman Chatti. Drive 7 hours to reach Dehradun to board 
overnight train for Delhi.
